This was the perfect alternative to Disneyland on a rainy day! We loved how many exhibits there are and that there are some mammals (sea lions, seals, otters) to see in addition to the many types of fish. There are a few opportunities in the outside exhibits to touch some of the sea creatures (sting rays, sharks, jellyfish) and a very cool touch pool inside the building. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. If you do go on a rainy day, just be prepared for a big crowd!
I was pleasantly surprised with this aquarium and really enjoyed my visit. I've been to some great aquariums around the country and didn't expect too much at this Long Beach facility. However, the aquarium is very well done and informative. I especially enjoyed the jellyfish and the informative talks given by the staff. Highly recommended.
Best aquarium in Southern California. Such a memorable experience! I saw children of all ages interacting with animals and activities for even adults to enjoy wildlife. Must visit if you are in the Long Beach area, plus a great view of the Queen Mary.
I love this aquarium- I visit every time I'm in LA, starting back in 2012. This last time was truly wonderful, as I was able to take my 5YO daughter with me. She had a blast with all the touch tanks- not just rays, which are normal, but also the bamboo sharks, horseshoe crabs, moon jellies, sea urchins, and anemones also.We were there right before Christmas and everything was festive. I loved the Scuba Santa in the main tank, and all the little touches, like the snowflake in the seahorse tank. Kiddo adored the snow bubbles during the polar bear photo opportunity.I also had the luck to be there for a private reception one evening, which was truly lovely. They had a band, a special otter time, and it was a lovely getting to see how the animals outside changed their behavior with the dusk and nighttime.Bonus- I fell in love with the stuffed rainbow rays outside, but when it was time for us to leave, they had closed that shop up. My partner went into the gift shop and asked- and they went and got the rainbow ray especially for him/me. Now that's customer service!
We had a great day here, we went during the Christmas season so we think it might have been a bit crazier than normal. They had a ton of really nice exhibits with fish from up and down the coast and elsewhere. I think our favorite exhibit was the playful seals! They had a touch pool with sharks and Ray's which was really fun for our little one. The place is in need of a bit of renovations but from what it looked like they are doing exactly that. Long story short this is a great place to spend the day learning with your kids.
